If stress and anxiety has kept you from staying on top of your dental health, sedation dentistry may help you overcome those barriers. Instead of worrying about any procedures as they occur Dr. Mike can work while you relax. This ensures you have a stress-free, painless experience.
You don’t have to let anxiety stop you from improving your oral health. Depending on your specific health considerations and the procedures involved, there are ways to ensure the process is safe, easy and free of worry.
Here are a few of the ways we can make the dental implant process free of stress and anxiety.
Oral sedation
Oral sedation involves medications which can be swallowed or dissolved under the tongue. If you and Dr. Mike decide that oral sedation is the best option, you’ll receive a prescription for a sedative which will induce deep relaxation. Although you’re conscious, you’ll have a safe and soothing experience. In fact, you may not even remember the details of the procedure at all.
Inhalation sedation
Many patients are familiar with nitrous oxide, also known as “laughing gas.” This sedative is inhaled, along with oxygen, throughout your dental procedure. While you are conscious, you will be in a deep state of relaxation. Some patients even experience euphoria—hence the name laughing gas.
One of the best benefits of nitrous oxide is that the effects wear off very shortly after it’s administered. After the procedure is completed and the sedation has worn off (typically within minutes), you’re free to drive yourself home.
IV sedation
Finally, intravenous (IV) sedation is an option for many patients. IV sedation often results in “amnesiac” effects, or loss of memory during the procedure: you may not remember anything while you are under its effects.
IV sedation is safe and effective. While you’re under sedation, your Cleveland Implant Institute care team will monitor you throughout your procedure. While IV sedation is more powerful than the previously mentioned sedation options, Dr. Mike and your Cleveland Implant Institute care team will ensure your sedation medication is monitored and adjusted as necessary. By the time the procedure is over, you’re unlikely to remember any details—you may not even realize any time has passed.
Keep in mind that you will need someone to drive you home after receiving IV sedation.
